Czech Initiative Secures Funding for 880,000 Artillery Shells Bound for Ukraine.
Czech Republic Leads Ammunition Procurement for Ukraine
According to UATV: The Czech Republic has secured funding to purchase 880,000 artillery shells for Ukraine, with deliveries scheduled for 2026. This effort is part of ongoing international support for Ukraine's defense against the ongoing invasion. Notably, in 2025, the Czech Republic was responsible for supplying half of all large-caliber ammunition received by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In total, the Czech-led initiative has already delivered 1.96 million shells to Ukraine.
High Demand and the Search for Additional Funding
Ukrainian forces are heavily reliant on large-caliber munitions, specifically requesting shells with a range exceeding 30 kilometers. According to reports, Ukraine's military expends between 3,000 and 8,000 such shells daily. To meet this critical need, the Czech government is actively seeking additional sponsors and donors to raise between 2.5 and 5 billion Czech koruna, equivalent to 103 to 206 million euros.
"We are actively searching for additional sponsors and donors to reach a total sum of 2.5 to 5 billion koruna," stated Hynek Kmoníček.
To strengthen bilateral cooperation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Czech President Petr Pavel on February 14. This high-level engagement underscores the importance of sustained international backing for Ukraine's national security efforts. The Czech Republic, as a key European ally, has demonstrated a consistent commitment to aiding Ukraine, while also rallying broader international support for these vital initiatives. This ongoing support is crucial for Ukraine's defense capabilities and contributes to regional security.
