Scandal Erupts Due to a Man in Women's Compartment: Reaction of 'Ukrzaliznytsia'.
'Ukrzaliznytsia' found itself in a scandal due to a man who ignored the company's warning and bought a ticket to a women's compartment. However, the loudest response was caused by the action of the conductor, who let the man into the car and tried to convince the women to accept him.
This incident occurred on train 005 Zaporizhzhia-Yasinya when the man boarded in Dnipro. A video with the dialogue between the women, the conductor, and the man was published online.
According to reports, on Sunday, August 4, the conductor in Dnipro let the man into the fifth car of train 005 Zaporizhzhia-Yasinya. This car was designated for women, so the conductor should have found another place for him in a different car. Initially, the man tried to convince the female passengers that he had the right to travel with them, and later the conductor herself came to his defense. She did not prevent the man, assuring that if he had a ticket, he could travel.
'He has a ticket. Do you understand? I did not bring him here. Why can't he travel? Where did these restrictions come from?' said the conductor.
Later, the man, who should not have been in this car according to the rules, joined the conversation: 'Girls, if you don't like it, you can get off and go to another compartment. Or did I sell my ticket? If there are problems - go to the cashier and change your ticket, and ride in the cart.'
The conductor defended the man, claiming that women's cars were inadequate. The man himself discriminated against the LGBTQ community, stating that he would have refused if it were a car for gays.
The author of the video with the reviews of the man and the conductor noted that the man said that the women 'clucked like hens in their chicken coop'. But after a complaint to the 'Ukrzaliznytsia' hotline, the man was transferred to another car.
According to the author, the conductor 'Ukrzaliznytsia' strangely argued why women should travel peacefully with an unwanted passenger: 'The most interesting thing was to hear the conductor's argument: 'It's nothing, let the man have fun with the girls. Why can't he travel with you?'. Then she and the man said that women’s cars are nonsense, but ‘young girls’ are outraged,' - the author noted.
Social Media Reaction to the Scandal
Facebook users were outraged by the conductor's behavior and noted the shortcomings of 'Ukrzaliznytsia' regarding women's cars.
'How could a man buy a ticket in a women's car? Or how did the conductor check the documents if he bought it under a woman's name?', 'I had to turn in the tickets and buy tickets for another train because it was a women's car and my seven-year-old son was supposed to travel with me and my daughters. After purchasing the tickets, I was called by 'Ukrzaliznytsia' and told that it was against the rules because some women might protest the presence of a seven-year-old boy in the car. But this is a situation where I feel like an idiot', 'What a terrible transmission of these classic mistakes by people who last read this in school because the teacher forced them to', 'Clucked like hens in the chicken coop', 'a car for gays - I would refuse, I would rather not sleep at night and celebrate my brotherhood' - they wrote on the network.
Response of 'Ukrzaliznytsia'
'Ukrzaliznytsia' quickly responded to the incident and commented under the author's post: 'The 'Ukrzaliznytsia' app, where tickets for women's cars are sold, has a clear warning that these seats are intended for women. In this case, the passenger consciously ignored this requirement, so he should have been prohibited from traveling in this car. Although such cases are rare, they seem exceptional. The task of our conductors in such situations is to find an alternative place for the man in another car. The correctness of the crew's actions is now being investigated, but we can already say that according to protocols, this situation should have been resolved before boarding. Women's cars are created for the safety and comfort of women, and 'Ukrzaliznytsia' asks to respect these rules'.
Recall that the introduction of women's cars by 'Ukrzaliznytsia' was a response to frequent complaints about harassment by men on trains. The company decided to allocate separate cars for the safety of women and children under six years old. Tickets for such cars contain a warning about their purpose, but the man in this case ignored it.
As reported, from August 1, 2024, ticket sales for some international routes by 'Ukrzaliznytsia' will only be carried out with verification through 'Diia.Signature'.
