Since the beginning of 2024, 63 servicemen have been injured while detaining or attempting to stop illegal migrants
It is reported that since the beginning of this year, almost 28,000 attempts to illegally cross the border have been recorded on the border with Belarus, which is more than 2,000 more than in the entire year of 2023. Most of the migrants are citizens of Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia, Eritrea, India, Ethiopia, and Yemen. In Poland, it is believed that the Belarusian special services are behind these events. Illegal border crossing between Poland and Belarus has become a serious problem since the beginning of 2021, when there was a sharp increase in migration flow against the backdrop of a political crisis in Belarus and strained relations between Minsk and the EU. Poland accused the Belarusian government of facilitating the mass movement of migrants from the Middle East, Africa, and Asia to the border as a means of pressuring the European Union in response to sanctions. Illegal migrants often behave aggressively during detention, throwing stones and branches at Polish soldiers and border guards. According to Polish officials, Belarusian special services play a key role in organizing the flow of migrants, which leads to the destabilization of the situation at the border. In response to the escalation of the problem, Poland has strengthened border security by installing barriers and engaging additional military units. Previously, it was reported that Poland plans to flood part of the border with Belarus and establish new barriers and fortifications there. Incidentally, a balloon of unknown purpose fell on Polish territory near the Belarusian border. The police are guarding the crash site, as reported by radio station RMF FM. The State Border Service reported that on October 6, the movement of vehicles was temporarily stopped in both directions at the Ukrainian-Polish border due to technical malfunctions in the Polish customs service database.
