Putin is not ready for peace: German defense minister on the key to ending the war.
According to ТСН: There are currently no confirmations from the Kremlin about the Russian leader's readiness to cease hostilities.
Lack of will for peace in Moscow
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius noted that despite the diplomatic activity from the USA, European allies, and Ukraine, Russia continues to ignore calls for a ceasefire. He emphasized that the end of the war depends solely on the decision of one person.
“Despite the efforts of the Americans, Europeans, and Ukrainians to achieve a ceasefire, there are no signs from Moscow that Putin is interested in stopping the war. However, the negotiations in Berlin were important,”
the minister added.
The head of Germany's defense ministry also pointed out that recent meetings in Berlin demonstrated the significance of Europe in shaping the future of Ukraine. He listed as major achievements of the discussions the agreement on shared positions among European partners, the USA, and Kyiv, as well as the affirmation of Europe's rights in developing the security architecture.
Security guarantees and multinational forces
Regarding the possibility of deploying “multinational forces led by Europe,” Pistorius indicated that this is still a hypothetical issue but confirmed the readiness of European countries for such participation. The politician also emphasized that it is now the turn of the USA to make a substantial contribution to security guarantees.
Germany and its allies continue to work on coordinating efforts to urge the Kremlin towards real negotiations, although the “key” to peace, according to Pistorius, remains in Putin's hands.
Additionally, Romanian President Nicolae Ciucă believes that an end to the Russo-Ukrainian war is unlikely in the near future, despite the active diplomatic initiatives from the White House.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb expressed the opinion that negotiators are closer to reaching a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine than “ever before.”
The further development of events on the Ukrainian front depends on how the Kremlin's position changes. The situation remains tense, and the active diplomacy of international partners continues to play a crucial role in seeking paths to peace. At the same time, the views of politicians on the likelihood of negotiations indicate the ambiguity of the future peace process.
