Spain announced a key condition for negotiations regarding Ukraine: what it means.
The Spanish Foreign Minister, Jose Manuel Albares, stated that Ukraine must be involved in all negotiations concerning its territory and the future of the country. He emphasized that no one has the right to make decisions about Ukraine without the government of that country.
The head of Spain's Foreign Ministry assessed the meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska. Ahead of the meeting of EU foreign ministers scheduled for today, August 11, Spain underscored the importance of involving Kyiv in all negotiations about Ukraine's future. He stressed that no one should make decisions regarding Ukraine's territory without the Ukrainian government.
The minister considers the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin to be positive only if it will be solely a discussion about peace, and not a violation of Ukraine's sovereignty or security in Europe. He warned that if Russia wins the war with Ukraine, the world will become less stable, potentially leading to attempts by one neighbor to invade another.
It is noted that the meeting between Trump and Putin will take place on August 15 in Alaska. The US president has already stated that Zelensky must be prepared to sign some documents. For his part, Zelensky refused to give land to the occupiers. Ukraine's ambassador to the US, Oksana Markarova, explained what to expect from Trump in the negotiations. Russia claimed that the meeting in Alaska will bring peace.
The position of the Spanish Foreign Minister underscores the importance of Ukraine's participation in international negotiations regarding its future and territorial integrity. This indicates the support of European countries on issues related to Ukraine, and the importance of avoiding decisions that would affect the sovereignty and security of the country without its involvement.Read also
