Battery Replacement in Electric Vehicles: Why It’s Dangerous to Do It Yourself.
Given the unique construction and functionality of an electric vehicle, replacing its battery turns out to be a complex task that can only be performed by experienced specialists. The cost of such work may be high, but the consequences of incorrect handling of this sensitive mechanism will always be much more expensive.
This was reported by Slash Gear.
Specialized Equipment
Electric vehicle batteries differ from classical lead-acid batteries for internal combustion engine cars not only in material but also in design. Instead of a compact box under the hood, lithium-ion batteries in electric cars are large flat structures located under the entire floor of the vehicle.
They consist of thousands of individual cells, providing a high energy density necessary for powering the electric motor. This complex design, significant weight (up to 450 kg), and the presence of additional components (sensors, hydraulics) make them extremely sensitive.
Any careless handling can lead to serious damage, and some batteries may even completely block when attempting unauthorized repairs.
This is why the maintenance and replacement of batteries for electric vehicles should only be performed by qualified mechanics with the appropriate equipment. This ensures safety and preserves the valuable battery.
Additional Risks
A typical electric vehicle battery operates at a voltage of 400-800 V. This significantly exceeds 50 V, which is considered fatal to humans. Improper handling can lead to severe electric shock.
But that’s not all. A damaged battery can catch fire or even explode. Therefore, DIY repair or battery replacement is an extremely risky idea.
It’s better to entrust this work to professionals who have the necessary knowledge, experience, and specialized protective clothing to perform everything safely.
The design and functionality of electric vehicles are unique, so replacing their batteries requires specialized equipment and qualified professionals. Incorrect actions with the sensitive mechanism can lead to serious consequences, so it’s best to leave such procedures to professionals.Read also
