The newly elected President of the USA, Donald Trump, calls on Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine and hold peace talks. This was stated by John Bolton, Trump's former national security adviser, in an interview with '24 channel'.

I think there is a greater likelihood that Putin will kindly comply with Trump's request and agree to cease-fire at the beginning of the negotiations. From the Russian perspective, if they can successfully freeze the war along the actual front line in Ukraine, they will hope that as the peace talks drag on, this line of cease-fire will gradually become the new border between Russia and Ukraine. Obviously, this would be terrible for Ukrainians,' Bolton said.

Bolton believes that Putin will agree to peace talks and wants a cease-fire in Ukraine.

According to Bolton, Ukraine's defense has led to significant defeats for Russian troops, who suffered losses of equipment and destruction of the Black Sea fleet. Sanctions imposed against Russia have also inflicted economic damage.

However, Putin does not want his actions to appear weak or forced, so he may take advantage of Trump's offer for a cease-fire.

However, the involvement of his 'good friend' Trump in this gives him an opportunity to present everything as he wants and agree to a cease-fire. He may not take this opportunity, but it is certainly in his interests to accept it,' Bolton concluded.

According to Bolton, after Trump's inauguration, American military and economic assistance for Ukraine may be reduced, and negotiations with Russia will begin quickly.
