Should you wash your hair with household soap - tips from trichologists.
There are real legends about household soap. It is said that our grandmothers washed their hair with it and had thick, strong, shiny locks. Allegedly, there were no shampoos back then, and their hair looked luxurious.
News.LIVE will tell you whether this really works and whether it's worth repeating their experience today.
Can household soap be beneficial for hair?
Household soap is not just any soap. In fact, it is quite aggressive for the skin and hair. If you wash your head with it constantly, you may not get silky hair but a completely different effect: dry ends, brittle strands, itchy skin, and even dandruff. Hair can appear greasier the very next day after washing - this is the skin's reaction to irritation.

There is also a myth: household soap is supposedly effective in stopping hair loss. However, according to trichologists, hair loss can be a signal that something is wrong within the body. The causes can be various: a deficiency of vitamins, hormonal imbalances, stress, or other factors. And solving this with soap is definitely not possible.
However, there are situations when you have nothing at hand but a bar of household soap. If it's absolutely critical - one time is okay. But there's a condition: after such washing, it is essential to neutralize the lye present in this soap. To do this, a solution of regular table vinegar with water (1 tablespoon per liter of water) should be used to rinse the hair thoroughly.

The conclusion is simple: household soap is not an option for daily hair care. Even if grandmothers did it, times and conditions have changed. Hair requires gentle care and not harsh experiments. If you want to keep your locks healthy and beautiful, it's better to choose products specifically designed for hair.
