Ukraine to cease diesel imports from India starting in 2025: what will happen to prices

According to inkorr.com: Starting from October 1, 2025, Ukraine will stop importing diesel fuel from India, which, according to expert assessments, is produced from Russian oil. This has caused concern among drivers regarding possible price increases and shortages. The director of the 'Consulting Group A-95'

Serhiy Ku Yun
assured citizens on his social media page that the situation will remain stable.

Should we expect an increase in diesel prices after the refusal of fuel from India

According to Serhiy Ku Yun:

'There are no grounds for significant price increases'
. He noted that Ukraine has enough alternative fuel sources, namely:
  • Supplies from EU countries (Poland, Lithuania, Slovakia).
  • Imports through sea ports (Odesa, Chornomorsk).

These channels ensure market stability, so the refusal of Indian diesel will not lead to shortages. However, prices may change due to fluctuations in the global market:

  • By 20-60 kopecks per liter for gasoline and diesel.
  • Slight increase in prices for liquefied gas.

Reasons for the ban on fuel from India

The ban on fuel imports from India is due to India and Turkey purchasing Russian oil, refining it, and supplying diesel to Ukraine, avoiding sanctions. Thus, fuel that indirectly supports the aggressor enters the Ukrainian market.

The government of Ukraine plans not only to halt imports from India but also considers limiting supplies through the Romanian port of Constanta, where Russian raw materials may also be used.

The Cabinet of Ministers intends to increase control over the origin of fuel to eliminate the use of Russian resources. In 2023-2024, Ukraine has already reduced the import of fuel related to the Russian Federation and redirected purchases to European suppliers. However, some loopholes, such as the processing of Russian oil in third countries, still allow these products to enter the market.

The government's systematic actions regarding the ban on fuel imports from India are aimed at reducing Ukraine's dependence on Russian energy resources and strengthening energy security. Restrictions and controls over the origin of fuel are becoming important steps in combating the financing of aggression and stabilizing the price market.
