Why light schedules change throughout the day: an explanation from energy experts.

According to ТСН: The electricity outage schedules in Ukraine are constantly updated throughout the day as the situation in the energy system can change.

This was explained by Hennadiy Ryabtsev, the chief researcher at the National Institute for Strategic Studies, in an interview with Ukrainian Radio.

Balance of production and consumption

He noted that the main reason for these changes is the need to maintain a balance between electricity production and consumption. The volumes of generation can change depending on the weather and the state of the grid.

“When the weather is good and the sun is shining, solar power plants come online, additional generation appears, and we can supply more consumers,” explained Ryabtsev.

He also emphasized that any accident at energy facilities can quickly influence the outage schedules.

“If there is damage, or generation decreases, or normal distribution of electricity becomes impossible. Then the schedules are adjusted depending on the duration of the repairs,” noted the expert.

Emergency outages

Especially many emergency outages are recorded in Kyiv and the region. Ryabtsev noted that the equipment often cannot withstand the intense “on-off” mode, which causes local malfunctions in residential buildings.

Despite this, the expert emphasizes that energy workers strive to maximize the number of consumers receiving electrical energy.

“The more people have electricity, the more resources the energy workers have for repairs and network restoration,” he summarized.

Vladimir Omelchenko, director of energy programs at the Razumkov Center, noted that although long-term outages are possible, this year the enemy will not be able to completely de-energize Ukraine.

Experts believe that the constant updating of schedules and maintaining balance in the energy system are key tasks that energy workers must tackle. In the face of ongoing threats and challenges, it is extremely important to ensure the stability of electricity supply for the residents of Ukraine.
