Yasno Explains Rising Electricity Bills Amidst Power Outages.
The Situation with Electricity Bills
According to Novyny.live: Despite experiencing power blackouts, many Ukrainians received higher electricity bills this winter. The energy supplier Yasno has clarified the reasons behind these increases, pointing to greater overall power consumption and potential meter malfunctions. According to company data from January 2026, 41% of consumers increased their usage, while only 38% managed to save energy. This indicates that a significant portion of the population was unable to reduce consumption even during scheduled outages, a challenge familiar to those in regions with unstable energy infrastructure.
Tariff Adjustments
Starting March 1, 2023, Ukrainians will no longer pay higher electricity tariffs. A fixed rate of UAH 4.32 per kWh will apply for most households. Consumers with two-zone meters will have the option to pay a reduced rate of UAH 2.16 per kWh for electricity used overnight between 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM. These new tariffs are designed to incentivize users to shift their consumption away from peak hours, potentially easing strain on the national grid.
The next potential adjustment to household electricity prices could occur in 2026, creating some uncertainty for consumers trying to budget their expenses. Given the recent bill increases, Yasno also advises customers to consider having their electricity meters inspected, as faults can lead to inaccurate readings. Consumers can request a meter verification to ensure their charges are correct.
Overall, the electricity billing situation in Ukraine remains complex, requiring consumers to stay vigilant to avoid unexpected costs. The combination of rising consumption and evolving tariff structures presents new challenges for household financial management. The ongoing reliance on electricity for daily life underscores the critical need for effective consumption and financial planning in this area.
Upcoming changes to electricity tariffs, along with the option for meter checks, will be key considerations for Ukrainian consumers in the coming months. In an environment of economic instability and rising prices, it is essential for consumers to monitor their expenses closely and actively utilize available options to reduce their bills.
