Zelensky appointed Budanov as head of the Presidential Office: what is known about his connections with the CIA.
According to ТСН: The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, signed a decree appointing Kyrylo Budanov as the new head of the Presidential Office. Budanov, who heads the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), has significant ties with American security agencies.
According to the publication, Budanov began collaborating with American intelligence even before the full-scale invasion. He underwent training under special programs funded by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
After being injured in Donbas, Budanov was rehabilitated at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Journalists note that this was an 'exceptional event for a foreign military' and was made possible thanks to the support of the American government. Such a level of access is available to only a few.
Budanov's career in HUR
The publication also emphasizes Budanov's career in the Main Intelligence Directorate. Zelensky appointed him to this position in 2020 when he was only 34 years old. During this time, the agency gained a reputation as a bold organizer of secret operations.
Under Budanov’s leadership, HUR conducted complex diversions and eliminations on the front, including in Russian territory. His resignation could cause serious 'shocks' in the leadership of Ukrainian special services.
New appointment and challenges
The transition of one of Ukraine's most well-known generals to a political position comes at a time when the possibility of holding elections after a hypothetical truce with Moscow is actively being discussed.
Budanov confirmed that he accepted the proposal to lead the Presidential Office, expressing his willingness to take on a new level of responsibility. He noted that he would focus on key issues of strategic security during this critical period for Ukraine and also expressed gratitude to the president for his trust and assured that he would continue to work to protect the country and achieve a just peace.
This appointment reflects an attempt by the Ukrainian leadership to strengthen its position on the international stage, particularly in the context of potential negotiations with Russia. Changes in power structures may affect strategy and operational decisions in the context of active warfare.
