Conor McGregor received an 18-month ban: the reason for the decision.
Conor McGregor received an 18-month ban from the UFC for violating anti-doping rules
According to The Sun: Conor McGregor admitted his guilt in violating UFC anti-doping rules and agreed to an 18-month ban. The athlete failed to inform the Sports Anti-Doping Agency (CSAD) – UFC testers – of his whereabouts three times.
Conor McGregor received an 18-month UFC ban for violating anti-doping rules XThis constituted a violation of UFC anti-doping policy. McGregor failed to appear for tests scheduled for June 13, September 19, and September 20 of last year. As a result, he received an 18-month ineligibility period starting from September 20, the date of his third missed test.
He will be eligible to return to fights on March 20 of next year – just in time for a scheduled UFC event at the White House on June 14, 2026. UFC stars are required to regularly report their exact locations for random tests.
McGregor became a victim of refusing to provide his address, which fell under the category of 'Whereabouts Failures' according to UFC policy.
The Irishman has not returned to the octagon since July 2021, when he seriously injured his leg in a fight against Dustin Poirier. He was expected to fight Michael Chandler on June 29, 2024, but withdrew due to a finger injury.
This means that his first violation of the whereabouts policy occurred just ONE day after his withdrawal from a fight for the first time in his UFC career.
CSAD noted that McGregor is recovering from an injury – a broken finger – and was not preparing for a future fight during the three missed tests.
According to information, McGregor 'fully cooperated with the CSAD investigation, took responsibility, and provided detailed information that CSAD believes contributed to the missed tests.'
Due to his cooperation and consideration of circumstances, CSAD reduced the standard 24-month penalty for three whereabouts failures by six months.
This was McGregor's first doping violation in the UFC, and he has not commented on the decision yet.
Recently he announced a break from social media after withdrawing from the Irish presidential elections. He stated: “Hello, online friends, I am stepping away from the network for a while, see you soon!
“My love is unwavering! Thank you all.”
McGregor, who recently returned to training after announcing plans for a fight at the White House, has faced conflicts since his absence. In December of last year, he was charged with civil violence concerning an incident from 2018.
The court found that McGregor 'brutally raped and assaulted' Nikita Hend in a penthouse of the Beacon hotel in Dublin.
He was ordered to pay Ms. Hend £206,000 and cover her legal fees, subsequently losing an appeal on the sentence.
McGregor even hinted at the possibility of RETIRING during a Bare Knuckle press conference in March, but quickly backed away from that assertion.

McGregor last fought in the octagon in 2021, losing to Dustin Poirier.
However, McGregor returned to the UFC drug testing program in August, and he needs to pass six months of clean tests before he can fight again.
In July, U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to hold UFC fights on the Oval Office grounds.
UFC CEO Dana White discusses executing this dream to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
The event is expected to host only 5,000 spectators under strict security conditions.
McGregor, 37, is one of the likely participants in this competition, and White is talking about the superstar's return to the octagon.
“We will build the greatest card of all time,'
he said.
“Conor and I are in constant communication, he really wants this fight, and when you reach such a level as Conor, you need to find things that motivate, and the card at the White House definitely motivated Conor McGregor.”
Recent events have shown that McGregor's career in the UFC is still filled with unpredictable twists. His ban period will end in March, giving him the opportunity to return to the ring after a year and a half of absence. Whether he can once again capture the attention of fans and realize his potential in a fight at the White House remains a question of time. McGregor continues to be an important figure in the world of martial arts, and his return promises to be exciting.
