Where in Europe is the Highest Level of Education: Statistics.


The latest Eurostat data indicates that education among Europeans is currently at the highest level in history: in almost all EU countries, women surpass men in educational attainment. In 2014, 26% of EU citizens aged 25-74 had higher education, and this figure is expected to rise to 33.5% by 2024. This information was reported by 'Glavkom' referencing Euronews.
The leaders in terms of the number of people with higher education aged 25-34 are Ireland, Luxembourg, and Cyprus, where over 60% of young people have higher education. Romania, on the other hand, has the lowest rate in the EU, with less than 30% of youth holding higher education.
Generational Gap
According to data relevant to views on education among different generations, 82.7% of adults aged 25-54 have at least secondary education, while among the group aged 55-74 this figure stands at 70.4%.
Younger individuals are nearly twice as likely to have higher education (39.8%) compared to the older generation (23.9%).
- In Luxembourg, educational attainment among both generations on average indicates a preference for vocational fields (over 96%).
- In Portugal, only 13.5% of the older generation with secondary education have vocational qualifications, whereas among the youth, this figure is 37.2%.
