Ukrzaliznytsia Ticket Shortage Drives Scalper Prices Up by Triple.
Ukrzaliznytsia Ticket Shortage
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine’s national railway operator is facing a severe summer ticket crunch, pushing reseller prices to exorbitant levels. As the summer holiday season kicks off across the country, countless passengers are running into major hurdles when trying to secure seats. The shortage hits hardest in June, July, and August, when travel demand peaks.
One traveler shared her frustration, revealing she had to buy a ticket from a scalper for 1,600 hryvnias—nearly triple the actual price of 657 hryvnias for a trip to Warsaw. This markup has sparked outrage among many passengers.
“How are we going to fight ticket scalpers?” the passenger asked.
In response, Ukrzaliznytsia has urged travelers to familiarize themselves with carriage rules, such as the requirements for bringing a pet onboard. Previously, Novyny.LIVE also advised passengers on what to do when ventilation or air conditioning fails on a train. Today, the combination of scarce tickets and inflated scalper prices is creating a serious headache for those planning summer getaways.
Transport System Challenges
The current ticket shortage highlights deeper flaws in Ukraine’s transport system during peak season. Surging demand for seats is driving up resale prices, adding extra stress for travelers. For many Ukrainians, this means they must book trips well in advance and keep a close eye on updates from Ukrzaliznytsia to avoid overpaying or facing disruptions during their summer vacations.
