In Russia, the birth rate continues to decline despite Putin's demands for large families. In the first half of 2024, the number of births decreased by 16.6 thousand, to 599.6 thousand, which is almost 3% less than last year. Mortality in Russia also increased, according to Rosstat statistics. In 6 months, the country lost 272.5 thousand people due to natural population losses. It is forecasted that the losses will continue in the coming decades, and by 2100 Russia may lose approximately 40 million people.
Ukraine is also experiencing a deterioration in the demographic situation. Economist Oleksiy Kushch notes that the most numerous population groups are Ukrainians aged 30-34 and 20-24.
