Up to 6800 Hryvnias fine or community service: Ukrainians will be punished for 'illegal form' of clothing.
Violations of military uniform wearing rules will be fined
Ukraine foresees strict rules and penalties for the illegal use of military uniforms. A fine is provided for this, which depends on the circumstances of the violation and can range from 2550 to 6800 Hryvnias, along with possible confiscation of the uniform. In case of repeated violations, even harsher penalties are expected - a higher fine or community service.
Law No. 9217, adopted on June 6, 2019, regulates responsibility for the illegal use of military uniforms, state awards, burial sites, and monuments dedicated to defenders of Ukraine.
Legislation allows wearing military uniforms only for certain categories of persons, such as servicemen, cadets, reservists, individuals during gatherings, lyceum students, and those released to the reserve or retirement with the right to wear the uniform. Non-compliance with this rule is considered an administrative offense.
For the first violation, a warning or a fine ranging from 2550 to 3400 Hryvnias with confiscation of the uniform is anticipated. A repeated violation within a year results in a fine from 3400 to 6800 Hryvnias or community service for 30-40 hours. The police have the right to check the documents of individuals wearing military uniforms and draw up protocols.
The law also provides for fines for illegal handling of state awards, depending on the type of violation.
- Buying, selling, or exchanging awards is punishable by a fine from 850 to 1700 Hryvnias with confiscation.
- Illegal production or sale of awards will cost the violator from 1700 to 3400 Hryvnias.
- Repeated violations entail fines doubled.
These measures are aimed at preserving the authority of state awards and preventing their commercialization. The law also imposes criminal liability for desecration of monuments and burial sites of defenders of Ukraine. Such actions may result in restriction of liberty or imprisonment for a term of 3 to 5 years.
It was previously explained whether it is necessary to show rights at checkpoints.
