Assistance for the Families of the Deceased — Why Payments May Be Stopped

Families of the fallen defenders in Ukraine can receive financial assistance from the state in the amount of 15 million UAH, paid over 40 months. However, there are cases where the disbursement of these payments may be halted.

Who receives payments in case of military deaths:

Novyny.LIVE explains who and under what conditions may lose the right to receive financial assistance.

A one-time financial assistance is given to individuals specified in the personal order of the defender, if such a document exists. If this document is absent, the family may also have the right to assistance.

  • Regardless of the content of the personal order, the right to assistance belongs to underage, non-working children, non-working widows/widowers, and non-working parents of the deceased individual.

Payments are also possible in the event of a military’s death in captivity, as the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine made changes. This documents the procedure for receiving financial assistance in this case.

'Today, the families of our heroes who perished in captivity are forced to prove their right to assistance in courts. They deserve the same support as the relatives of those who died in battle. Captivity is not peace; it is a continuation of war.'

Payments may be stopped if the individual is recognized as not being related to the deceased Defender's family, for example, in the case of annulment of the death record or a court decision recognizing a previously declared missing person as alive.
