Drones Strike Russia’s Largest Oil Terminal in the Northwest.
Attack on the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal
According to Espreso.tv: Unmanned aerial vehicles have targeted the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal, the biggest petroleum processing hub in northwestern Russia. Alexander Drozdenko, the governor of the Leningrad region, confirmed the drone assault on the facility. According to him, the local air defense system reportedly intercepted 30 drones attempting to enter the area.
Spanning 37 hectares and equipped with 21 storage tanks for petroleum products, this terminal is a critical component of the region’s oil infrastructure. Recent months have seen growing turmoil in Russia’s oil sector due to a series of incidents. For instance, on May 21, a fire broke out at an oil refinery in Syzran, raising concerns about the safety of such industrial sites.
Current State of the Oil Industry
Additionally, on May 23, strikes hit oil infrastructure near the city of Novorossiysk, as well as the chemical plant 'Metafrax.' These events highlight the increasing risks to industrial facilities in the area, especially with the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum set to begin on June 3. The attack on the oil terminal only heightens tensions surrounding Russia’s petroleum processing sector.
The security situation at oil infrastructure sites in Russia is becoming increasingly strained, which could have serious consequences for the country’s economy, particularly amid international sanctions and shifting global energy markets.

Attacks on strategic assets could disrupt oil supply stability and increase risks for investors. Moreover, ahead of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, these incidents may diminish Russia’s appeal as a reliable energy partner.
