Ukrainian Air Assault Forces Launch Counterattacks Across Three Fronts: How Paratroopers Storm the Enemy.
Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
According to UATV: The Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AAF of the AFU) are actively conducting counterattacks on the frontline in Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions. As part of their training, paratroopers perform jumps from Mi-8 helicopters, a critical step in preparing for combat operations. These jumps are carried out from altitudes of 600 to 800 meters, a standard practice for airborne troops.
The training involves soldiers with varying levels of experience. For instance, AAF soldier Yevgeny recently completed his first jump. “This was my first jump. Of course, I was nervous, like everyone else. Because the unknown is frightening,” he said. Another soldier, Viktor, has already logged 41 jumps, reflecting a high level of expertise. Dmytro, another paratrooper, completed his second jump, continuing to refine his skills.
Training Methods and Effectiveness
The exercises utilize two types of parachutes: Soviet-era models and European ones. This variety ensures diverse deployment methods and adaptability to different conditions. As military expert Vitaliy notes,
“No NATO country, including the United States, has abandoned airborne operations. At this stage, it is more about psychological preparation for carrying out a specific combat mission.”This underscores the importance of such training in maintaining troop morale and combat readiness.
The AAF has also proven effective in actual combat. In June, the 7th AAF Corps executed a successful operation, destroying a battalion of Russian forces on the Aleksandrovsk direction. This success highlights the significance of both defensive and counterattack actions performed by the paratroopers.
The psychological aspect of jumping is equally crucial. Soldier Bohdan remarks,
“The psychological step is crossing that threshold of the helicopter door.”This indicates that beyond technical training, paratroopers must be prepared for the mental challenges encountered during combat missions.
Ukrainian paratroopers continue to hone their skills and demonstrate a high level of preparedness, a vital element in the fight for national security.
The training of airborne troops emphasizes not only their physical readiness but also the importance of psychological resilience in combat conditions. Given the active hostilities in Ukraine, such preparation is becoming critically important for ensuring military personnel are ready to carry out their tasks. The enhancement of qualifications and adaptation to new deployment methods also reflect the Ukrainian military's drive to integrate modern standards, which could positively impact the effectiveness of their operations in the future.
