According to ТСН: In 2026, the phase of active hostilities may end, and the results of this war will become clear in just two months.

This opinion was expressed in an interview by political scientist Igor Reiterovich. He noted that the new US president Donald Trump, who came to power in 2025, failed to end the conflict within the planned timeframe. However, his efforts initiated a new process of peace negotiations.

End of Active Hostilities

“Therefore, it seems to me that in 2026 we will have an end, let’s call it that, to the active phase of hostilities. That is, it’s unlikely, well, it’s not a fact, that there will be some kind of peace agreement; I find it quite difficult to imagine it against the backdrop of all these negotiations, but there may be some story about the end of the active phase of hostilities,” Reiterovich said.

Problems in the Russian Economy

In his opinion, serious problems in the Russian economy may manifest in 2026, pushing Putin to take active measures on the battlefield.

“Because Putin understands that he actually has very limited time. And if he does not achieve some decisive successes within this time, then that’s it; he will have to sit down at the negotiating table, but these will not be the negotiations he envisions,” the political scientist noted.

Possible Scenarios

The expert believes that by March it will be possible to understand the further scenario of the development of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

“We will simply understand where to move next. Yes, Russia may try to prepare for some spring or even summer offensive, but this will have to be done exclusively at the expense of mobilization. And mobilization is a very unpopular topic that Putin fears,” Reiterovich concluded.

Also, earlier President Zelensky announced preparation for two parallel scenarios: diplomatic or transitioning to a tough active defense.
