Johnson's scandalous statement about US aid to Ukraine.
Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson expressed his doubts about the need for further funding to Ukraine.
In his interview with Punchbowl News, the Republican representative stated that he has no desire to continue funding Ukraine.
Johnson explains his position by the possible victory of Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential elections. In his opinion, if Trump wins, the war in Ukraine will end quickly.
"If Trump wins the election, then I believe he can truly end this conflict. I really believe in this. I think he'll call Putin and tell him: this will be enough," Johnson said.
Johnson also expressed his fears regarding a possible victory by Kamala Harris, calling such a scenario "desperate and dangerous." In his view, it will not lead to the end of the conflict.
It is worth noting that earlier Johnson hindered the adoption of an aid package to Ukraine amounting to 61 billion dollars, but then he proposed his version of the bill, which was approved in April.
The situation in the US Congress may change after the elections in November 2024, which may create uncertainty regarding further funding for Ukraine. Trump has repeatedly promised to end the war in Ukraine if elected.
Additionally, Mike Johnson previously accused the Ukrainian ambassador of interfering in the US elections.
