New EES System at the EU Border: What Will Change for Ukrainians from October.
According to inkorr.com: Starting from October 12, 2025, a new automated control system, EES (Entry/Exit System), will be implemented at the borders of the European Union. It will replace the traditional passport stamps with electronic exit and entry registration. EES will record the exact time and place of border crossing, as well as biometric data such as photographs and fingerprints. All this information will be stored in a database for three years and will be protected in accordance with GDPR.
Phased Implementation of the System
The new system applies to citizens of countries that are not EU members, who are in the Schengen Area without a visa or with a short-stay visa for up to 90 days. This means that Ukrainians traveling between Ukraine and Poland through the external borders of the Schengen Area will also be subject to the EES.
The implementation of the system will occur in phases, starting from October 12, 2025, and from April 10, 2026, this system will become mandatory at all Schengen borders. Developers assure that due to electronic registration, waiting times at the border will be reduced, and border crossing control will become more precise. Thus, from October 12, 2025, a new automated control system, EES, will be implemented at the EU borders, simplifying entry and exit procedures. This will improve border control and help avoid delays during crossing. The system will apply to citizens of third countries who are in the Schengen Area without a visa or with a short-stay visa for up to 90 days, including Ukrainians traveling through the external borders of the Schengen Area.
