The expert explained whether something could change in the relations between Ukraine and NATO with the arrival of the new Secretary General.

Head of the Center for Political Studies "Doctrine" Yaroslav Bozhko stated that the new NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte does not have direct influence on the process of Ukraine's accession to the Alliance. He emphasized that the fulfillment of NATO obligations depends on each member state individually. The Secretary General acts as a mediator who seeks compromise solutions among players in the Alliance. Bozhko believes that NATO's indecision is not in the position of the bloc itself, but in the individual member countries that determine the Alliance's policy. Thus, the change of NATO's leader should not affect the decision on Ukraine's accession to the Alliance, which depends on the United States. Bozhko emphasized that not accepting a country with territorial conflicts is not a founding principle of NATO, but a resolution of the Washington summit of the 1990s.
