Ukrainian apartment buildings may freeze in 48 hours: what to do.
According to inkorr.com: As the cold increases and the threat of new attacks on energy infrastructure looms, Ukrainian cities may find themselves facing a municipal collapse. In extreme frost and lack of heating, apartment buildings risk turning into uninhabitable ice traps in just two days.
Disadvantages and possible consequences
Oleg Popenko, an expert in the housing and utilities sector, warns that at a temperature of -20°C, panel buildings may cool down in just 36-48 hours, which could lead to heating systems failing due to freezing water in the pipes.
'An apartment building, panel type, cools down at -20°C in 36-48 hours. After 48 hours, if the weather forecast shows low temperatures will last for a week, for example, the water needs to be drained. Otherwise, it will be like in Alchevsk, where everything completely froze,' the expert emphasized.
What needs to be done
To avoid a humanitarian disaster, it is necessary to urgently prepare and conduct command-staff exercises on-site. This requires a significant number of specialists, which are currently lacking. It is essential to clearly define timelines and the number of people who will handle water drainage, train the staff, and check readiness for action in each city.
Inaction in this area could lead to tragic consequences, so each city must urgently respond and prepare for the possible collapse of the housing stock in conditions of war and instability.
As the cold approaches, the risk of municipal collapse in Ukraine increases due to the potential freezing of heating systems in apartment buildings. Experts are calling for urgent measures and preparations to prevent situations that could have serious consequences for residents.
