Shambira, the father of eight children, was accompanying the herd during a routine walk when an elephant named Limpopo suddenly became aggressive.
The elephant pushed a tree, prompting three caregivers to rush for help.
However, as they hurried, Limpopo charged and attacked Shambira, who was sitting under the tree.
The elephant impaled him with its tusk, causing fatal injuries.
Hearing the noise, the reserve staff rushed to help, but unfortunately, Israel did not survive to receive medical assistance.
“The elephant's behavior was 'unexpected' as the animals were in a 'relaxed' state when they entered the bushes,” a reserve representative reported.
Memories of Israel and elephant Limpopo
Limpopo, who became the cause of the tragedy, was the first calf born into the 16-member Yubelani herd in 2006.
Shambira, who adored elephants, had worked in the reserve since 1996, also focusing on relocating the herd.
“We don’t know what could have happened in Limpopo's mind and why she did this, especially since the elephants were in a relaxed state,” the reserve representative explained.
Colleagues recall that Shambira cared for the elephants just as he did for his family.

This horrific incident occurred just a few weeks after the attack on FC Konradi's CEO, who owned the exclusive private reserve Gondwana.
The 39-year-old millionaire died from a similar attack.
Colleagues noted that Konradi had a “love for elephants and nature” and often went out to photograph them.
The elephant was on its weekly walk when it attacked.HERD/FacebookThese events highlight the unpredictability of wild animal behavior, even in cases when they seem calm. The tragedy involving Israel Shambira and his mishap with Limpopo leaves a deep mark among his colleagues and all who knew him as a dedicated elephant caretaker.
Moreover, it calls for greater caution in interactions with wild animals and serves as a reminder of their inherent unpredictability, which can lead to dangerous situations even for experienced professionals.
