Energy System Update for May 28

According to Novyny.live: On May 28, 2023, Ukraine's power grid is under severe strain due to ongoing combat operations and adverse weather conditions, causing widespread electricity disruptions across multiple regions. Residents in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Sumy, and Kharkiv oblasts are currently without power.

More than 350 towns and villages are experiencing blackouts in the following regions:

  • Dnipropetrovsk
  • Zaporizhzhia
  • Kirovohrad
  • Zakarpattia
  • Mykolaiv
  • Poltava
  • Sumy
  • Khmelnytskyi
  • Cherkasy
  • Chernihiv
  • Kyiv

Despite these outages, authorities are not forecasting any scheduled power cuts at this time.

To help ease the burden on the grid, experts advise running major appliances between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM and conserving electricity during peak evening hours from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Lieutenant General Ihor Romanenko has warned that Russia still holds approximately 10 'Oreshnik' missiles in reserve, which could further destabilize the region's energy situation.

“The state of Ukraine’s energy system remains extremely critical, as fighting and weather continue to cause major power supply interruptions.” – Ihor Romanenko

These energy-saving recommendations highlight the urgent need for the population to adapt to wartime conditions. The future trajectory of the power grid will depend on the stability of the military front and potential shifts in weather, both of which could either hinder or help restore electricity to affected areas.
