EU Set to Hit Lukoil and Shadow Fleet in 21st Sanctions Package Against Russia.
EU Prepares New Round of Sanctions on Russia
According to UATV: The European Union is finalizing its 21st sanctions package targeting Russia, with a potential agreement expected as early as next week. Under the proposed measures, major oil companies including Lukoil and Rosneft could face a full asset freeze within EU territory. This marks a significant escalation in the bloc's economic pressure campaign.
In addition, the EU plans to expand its blacklist of vessels linked to Russia's shadow fleet—ships used to bypass existing restrictions. The goal is to further close loopholes that allow Moscow to evade sanctions. Member states also intend to extend the price cap on Russian oil, a key tool designed to curb revenue from energy exports. These steps are part of a broader EU strategy to support Ukraine and counter Russian aggression.
Why This Sanctions Package Matters
The upcoming sanctions represent a critical move in the EU's ongoing effort to back Ukraine and push back against Russia's war. By targeting major oil firms and expanding the list of sanctioned ships, the bloc aims to significantly reduce Russia's income from energy sales, weakening its ability to fund the conflict.
This latest round also underscores the unity and resolve of EU member states in addressing the threats stemming from the war in Ukraine, signaling that economic pressure will remain a central pillar of their response.
