EU may allow the deportation of refugees: what threatens Ukrainians.

The European Union plans to allow the deportation of Ukrainian refugees. This was reported by The Times.
The EU is considering revising the 1951 Refugee Convention, which prohibits countries from denying asylum and deporting refugees. This could be one of the biggest changes in Europe's migration policy in decades. The principle of prohibiting the forcible return of people, their deportation to dangerous countries is enshrined in the Convention.
However, EU officials believe that this document is already outdated.
In 2024, the number of asylum applications exceeded one million. This has led to social tensions and support among the local population for nationalist and radical populist political movements that demand tightened migration policies.
A plan for reviewing the Convention is already being developed, which envisions the establishment of centers for asylum-seeking migrants outside the EU. This idea is supported by the European Commission and some member countries, for example, Italy is already implementing a similar project in Albania.
Leaders of the 27 EU member states are calling for the rapid implementation of new rules for the deportation of migrants and joint efforts to reduce illegal migration.
A new bill is proposed that will simplify and expedite the process of returning migrants to their countries of origin.
It is evident that the review of the Convention will have significant consequences for the EU's migration policy. On one hand, it will help relieve pressure from countries that receive the most refugees and improve the asylum system. However, there is a risk of violating human rights and the principle of non-refoulement.
Some EU member states are already implementing changes in their migration policies. For example, Germany plans to reduce social benefits for able-bodied refugees who refuse to work. The Czech Republic is starting to issue a new type of residence permit for refugees.
New rules for receiving aid for Ukrainians have also been introduced in Germany.
