Merz calls on Europe to be united in foreign policy and trade
Candidate for the next Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz emphasizes the necessity for the European Union to be a leading force in foreign policy, security policy, and trade. He urges Brussels to focus on strategic issues and not interfere in the private lives of citizens.
Merz stresses that the EU should not allow itself to be dependent on the United States and be their puppet. He calls on European leaders to be decisive and to make important decisions independently.
'The EU should not become a 'dwarf' for Washington, because then it will be treated accordingly,' Merz said.
Moreover, the candidate expressed concern over US President Donald Trump's decision to impose 25 percent tariffs on steel and aluminum. This has led to an escalation of conflict between the USA and its trading partners.
