Military Career of Mykhailo Drapatyi
Born on November 21, 1982, in Kamianets-Podilskyi, Drapatyi graduated from the Kharkiv Institute of Tank Forces in 2004. Over his military career, he has built extensive experience, including:
- On May 9, 2014, he commanded the 2nd Mechanized Battalion of the 72nd Brigade during the breakout operation in Mariupol.
- For his achievements in 2014, Drapatyi was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi of the III, II, and I degrees.
- In 2021, he graduated as the top student from the National Defense University of Ukraine.
- On February 24, 2022, the day the full-scale war began, Drapatyi served as Deputy Commander of the Joint Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
- In January 2024, he commanded operations in the Kherson direction.
- In November 2024, he was appointed Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.
President Zelensky praised Drapatyi’s accomplishments, stating that he
delivered results for Ukraine in the defense of Kyiv, in the Kharkiv offensive operation, and in the Kursk operation.Drapatyi, in turn, expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Defense team for their work, noting: 'I am grateful to the Ministry of Defense team for taking on this task and not being afraid to address issues that the system usually avoids discussing.'
