EU Offers Technical Support and Funding to Restore the Druzhba Pipeline.
Technical Support from the European Union
According to UATV: The European Union has pledged both technical assistance and financial resources to restore operations of the Druzhba pipeline. This commitment was confirmed in a joint statement by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa. European experts are poised to begin work in the near future, underscoring the EU's serious intent to revive this critical energy infrastructure.
Why Restoring the Pipeline Matters
In January 2023, the Druzhba pipeline was struck by a Russian attack in Ukraine's Lviv region. Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal reported that a Russian drone caused extensive damage to much of the pipeline's internal equipment. Getting the pipeline back online is now a top priority for ensuring regional energy security.

As a result, this EU initiative could significantly enhance the stability of energy supplies across the region and help revive energy-related economic activity.
The restoration of the Druzhba pipeline is critically important not only for Ukraine but also for other European nations that rely on this source for their energy needs. The EU's move signals a strong willingness among European states to uphold energy security amid rising regional tensions. Successful completion of this project could mark a major step toward stabilizing energy deliveries across Europe and strengthening cooperation among EU member states in the energy sector.
