New EU-Ukraine Defense Industry Alliance Launched: What It Means for Security.
Why Drone Development Matters for Ukraine
According to Espreso.tv: Major General Volodymyr Havrylov recently highlighted the critical need to advance drone technology in Ukraine, stressing the importance of receiving key components from international partners while sharing real-world combat experience with allies. These issues gained new urgency following European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s visit to Kyiv on July 15, during which a fresh defense-industrial partnership between the EU and Ukraine was announced.
Having served as deputy defense minister from 2022 to 2023 and headed the Yevhenii Berezniak Military-Diplomatic Academy from 2014 to 2015, Havrylov emphasized that Ukraine must secure essential parts for its unmanned aerial vehicle programs. He pointed out that
“we get no experience from NATO because they don’t have any”—a remark underscoring the urgent need for deeper collaboration with international partners.
Ukraine’s Indispensable Role in Global Defense
Havrylov further stated that
“we are a critical partner for them at this stage,”warning that without Ukraine’s involvement, their plans could fail. “They won’t accomplish anything without us for the next two to three years—that’s for sure,” the major general added, pointing to Ukraine’s pivotal position in the global defense landscape. The development of drones and broader military cooperation with the European Union are becoming especially vital amid modern security challenges.
Havrylov’s comments underscore Ukraine’s growing role in international defense collaboration, particularly in the context of the war with Russia. Access to cutting-edge technology and support from the European Union is essential for strengthening Ukraine’s defensive capabilities and adapting to emerging security threats. This partnership with global allies could prove key to ensuring regional stability and boosting Ukraine’s military readiness.
