Estonia Warns of Putin’s Trap at Negotiations; Zelensky Calls for 21st Sanctions Package.
Concerns Over Pressure on Russia
According to UATV: Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, in an op-ed for RBC-Ukraine, has raised alarms about the potential easing of pressure on Russia. He argues that such a shift could hand Russian President Vladimir Putin an advantage in upcoming talks. Tsahkna emphasized that at the negotiating table, Putin will try to secure what he failed to achieve on the battlefield.
In response to these threats, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged international allies to adopt a 21st sanctions package against Russia, which is already being prepared by the European Union. Tsahkna also stressed the need to avoid falling into 'this trap,' underlining the importance of supporting Ukraine and maintaining pressure on Russia.
Sanctions Situation
Given the current circumstances, Estonia and other EU nations are actively working to introduce new restrictions against the Russian Federation. Their goal is to prevent further aggression and strengthen Ukraine’s position on the global stage.
This development underscores the critical role of international backing for Ukraine amid ongoing Russian aggression. Sustaining pressure on Moscow through sanctions and political support remains vital for regional stability and for deterring future attempts by Russia to upend the existing order. Additional sanctions could serve as a key tool in the fight for peace and security in Europe.
