The Euro Council allocates 15 billion euros in aid to Ukraine
During the Special European Council, 7 member states committed to provide additional financial and military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 15 billion euros, announced Antonio Costa, the President of the Euro Council.
'First of all, the best guarantee of security for Ukraine is Ukraine itself. Since February 24, 2022, the Ukrainian army has been resisting. Many people were convinced that they (Ukrainians) would not be able to resist for more than three days, then – more than three weeks. Now they have been resisting for more than three years. We have stood by Ukraine from the beginning, and we will continue this support after the war, as for a future member of the European Union. We have also decided to explore our capabilities within the EU Agreement to contribute to security guarantees,' said Antonio Costa during a press conference in Brussels.
He emphasized that security guarantees for future Ukraine are extremely important for the security of Europe and international security, as this war is not only about Ukraine but also relates to respect for international law, international order, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and secure borders.
'These principles are enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations. These are global issues, and we hope for the support of all countries in the world regarding the enforcement of international law. The results of the voting at the UN General Assembly last week confirmed broad support for Ukraine. It is obvious that international law must prevail, and the war must be won,' added Antonio Costa.
