Bundeswehr Division Expansion

According to UATV: Germany is set to significantly increase the size of its Bundeswehr division tasked with safeguarding critical infrastructure. By 2035, the unit’s personnel count will rise from 6,500 to more than 10,000. This move highlights a growing emphasis on national asset security.

Role of the Bundeswehr Division

The division is responsible for protecting key infrastructure sites, including:

  • ports
  • airports
  • bridges
  • railways
  • energy facilities

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has raised the country’s terrorism threat level to high.

“Our unit currently has a planned strength of 6,500 troops. But by 2035, we will increase that to over 10,000 personnel. We will establish internal security battalions. We will create support battalions. And we will have significantly more service members.”

Andreas Henne, Bundeswehr representative

This expansion of the Bundeswehr division signals a shift in Germany’s security strategy, likely driven by global threats and regional instability. The elevated terrorism threat level further underscores the urgency of preparing and protecting critical assets that underpin the country’s economic and social framework.
