EU to impose 18th sanctions package against Russia: Merz calls on the US to join.
The situation in Ukraine continues to escalate tensions between the European Union and Russia. Due to the actions of the aggressor state on Ukrainian territory, the EU plans to introduce new sanctions. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasizes the need to intensify actions and for the US to participate in this process, believing that economic pressure is the most effective means to force Russia to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
'The European Union is working on this, and tomorrow, finally, the 18th sanctions package will be initiated. But this package alone is not enough, we need more active participation from the US in sanctions,' Merz emphasized.
Some countries are already preparing legislative initiatives to strengthen sanctions against Russia, which, according to Merz, will help achieve peace in the region and provide support to the Ukrainian side. The US Senate will also consider a bill on sanctions against buyers of Russian energy resources, which will further increase pressure on the Kremlin.
Ukraine may feel support for its actions in restoring territorial integrity, while Russia may hear the shattering seals of economic pressure.
