New EU Travel App Launches to Tackle Border Delays: What Travelers Need to Know.
Introducing the 'Travel to Europe' Mobile Application
According to Novyny.live: In response to delays caused by the new Entry/Exit System (EES), the European Union has rolled out a mobile app designed to streamline border crossings. Currently being tested in Portugal, this application—named 'Travel to Europe'—represents a key effort to support the tourism season, which began amid the implementation of the EES. The app aims to help travelers navigate the updated procedures more smoothly.
Challenges with the EES System
While the EES went live in the fall, it quickly revealed serious flaws in border control operations, particularly at Lisbon Airport. These issues prompted an unannounced inspection by the European Commission at that location. As a result, authorities decided to suspend the EES for three months, raising further concerns about border management and traveler services.
To enter Portugal, visitors must present:
- A biometric passport valid for more than 180 days;
- Valid travel insurance.
It is worth noting that Ukrainian citizens can stay in Portugal for up to 90 days within a 180-day period without a visa, provided they have a biometric passport.
With these updates, travelers can now take advantage of the new features offered by the 'Travel to Europe' app, which is expected to simplify border crossing procedures.
The launch of the 'Travel to Europe' mobile app is a direct response to the challenges encountered during the EES rollout. This initiative has the potential to boost border control efficiency and enhance the overall travel experience, especially during the peak tourist season.
However, the full restoration of the EES will depend on successfully addressing the identified shortcomings and adapting border protocols to the new framework.
