EU Rolls Out Fresh Sanctions Against Russia: Here's Who Is Now on the Restricted List.
New EU Sanctions Package Targets Russia
According to UATV: On June 15, 2023, the Council of the European Union approved a new set of sanctions against Russia, serving as an interim measure before a larger 21st sanctions package. These restrictions cover 34 individuals and 47 legal entities, aiming to weaken Russia's military-industrial complex and reduce its revenue from energy exports. This move is part of the EU's ongoing strategy to curb Moscow's capacity to sustain its military operations.
The newly sanctioned entities include:
- JSC 'Lavochkin Scientific and Production Association'
- Chinese companies Shenzhen Minghuaxin and Xinxiang Richful Lubricant Additive Company
Two individuals, Tahir Garayev and Konstantin Rogach, along with 24 companies, were added to the sanctions list for their involvement in transporting and exporting Russian oil. This highlights the EU's focus on key sectors of the Russian economy tied to energy resources.
Propaganda Efforts and Opposition Crackdown
Additionally, 10 individuals and one organization face sanctions for spreading Russian propaganda, including Anatoly Kuzichev, Kirill Fedorov, Roman Antonovsky, and Maria Volkonskaya. Another 15 individuals linked to the persecution of opposition figure Alexei Navalny have also been blacklisted. These new measures underscore the EU's efforts to counter Russia's destabilizing actions on the global stage.
The approval of this sanctions package reinforces the EU's continued policy of pressuring Russia over its actions in Ukraine and global security concerns.
Targeting critical sectors like energy and defense, the sanctions aim to reduce the financial resources Russia can use to fund military activities. It is worth noting that these restrictions may also impact international relations, particularly with countries that maintain economic ties with Russia.
