Estonia Warns NATO: Russian Missiles Could Strike Within Seven Minutes.
Regional Security Threats
According to Espreso.tv: Estonia's Defense Minister, Hanno Pevkur, has stressed the need for coordinated action among NATO allies to ensure effective defense, pointing to the dangers posed by Russia. In an interview with The Sunday Times, he noted that the security landscape in the region has shifted dramatically, and a missile attack on Estonia or London could materialize in as little as seven to eight minutes. He also highlighted that warnings about potential assaults involving hundreds of 'Shahed' drones might come only two minutes in advance.
NATO's Defense Buildup
In response to these threats, NATO is reinforcing its defenses in the Baltic states, including plans to overhaul the command structure on the alliance's eastern flank.
'Geographic distance no longer guarantees safety,' - Hanno Pevkur
He added, 'The reality is that we are keeping NATO's front door locked. But for that, we need a reliable deterrence mechanism.' These remarks underscore the necessity of collective efforts to maintain security amid escalating risks.
The minister's statements reflect growing anxiety among Baltic nations about security as Russia continues active military operations in the area. NATO's enhanced defensive measures demonstrate the alliance's commitment to adapting to new challenges faced by its members. This shift is likely to influence the broader geopolitical landscape in Europe, as increased NATO military presence in the Baltics may provoke a response from Russia and will require close monitoring by the international community.
