Attacks on Zaporizhzhia Region

Russian troops continue to shell the Zaporizhzhia region. During the night of August 29, they launched five airstrikes on the villages of the region, including the village of Malokaterynivka. During the attack, a one-year-old boy was injured. The evacuation of civilians is ongoing, with law enforcement actively participating. Recently, a large family was evacuated from Malokaterynivka, who had to leave their home due to rocket shelling. A filming crew from the FREEДОМ channel captured the evacuation process.

Evacuation of the Family

A family from Malokaterynivka turned to the police for help in evacuation. All details were coordinated by phone, and the next morning, law enforcement officers set out to the location.

“We will be evacuating a family with three minor children — nine, eleven, and seventeen years old. We are taking the children and their parents out,” says police officer Maxim.

The family spent the wait for evacuation in the basement as the military was actively shelling the area. At night, airstrikes were heard, and during the day, drones with explosives attacked. It was very dangerous outside, says the older son Timur, so they had to stay in hiding.

Life in Malokaterynivka

The Yaremenko family lived in Malokaterynivka for almost 20 years, built a house, and established a farm. Elizabeth admits that leaving everything is very painful, but they can no longer risk.

“The last two hits were near our stable. It was very loud; one window broke, and glass fell. Here we have shelling every day. At night we hide in the basements. But this is not life; we will be leaving for a safe place,” says the woman.

While the family was packing their things, law enforcement noticed an approaching enemy drone.

“Right now, an enemy drone is flying near the settlement of Malokaterynivka, so we need to hurry and go to a safer place,” comments one of the police officers.

Arrival in Zaporizhzhia

The family successfully reached Zaporizhzhia without incidents. They were accommodated in one of the city dormitories, where about a hundred internally displaced persons from the Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Kherson regions already reside.

“The dormitory has everything necessary for the accommodation of people who were evacuated. There are kitchens, showers, washing machines, boilers,” says Alla Madai, the dormitory manager.

The family hopes that their stay in evacuation will not last long and is already planning how to return home.

Earlier, it was reported that in Kramatorsk, as a result of an attack by a Russian drone, a 49-year-old man was killed, and a 13-year-old girl was injured.

The events in the Zaporizhzhia region indicate ongoing threats to the civilian population. It is important to ensure safety and support for people who have lost their homes due to the war. In particular, two families from Malokaterynivka are taking the opportunity to find protection and assistance in Zaporizhzhia, hoping for a quick return home.
