Former Ferguson protégé dismissed: first job lasted only a month.
Lee Martin's Dismissal as Coach
According to The Sun: The former 'Manchester United' player, signed by the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, is no longer the team's coach.
Lee Martin, 38, joined 'United' in 2003 from 'Wimbledon' for a fee of 200,000 pounds, which could rise to a million depending on his performances.
GettyHowever, Martin played only one match for the 'Red Devils' – in the League Cup against 'Barnet' in 2005.
After that, he had several loan spells at different clubs, eventually signing with 'Ipswich' in 2009.
At 'Ipswich', he played 200 matches over four years, after which he played for 'Millwall' from 2013 to 2016.
Later, Martin played for 'Gillingham', 'Exeter' and 'Dover', ending his career at 'Ramsgate' in 2025.
In May, 'Welling' appointed Martin as the head coach of the team.
However, after just three wins in 13 matches, the club decided to dismiss him.
“Welling United can confirm that the club and coach Lee Martin have parted ways after a poor start to the season. We would like to thank Lee for his efforts, professionalism, and dedication during his time at Park View Road, and wish him success in the future.”
Martin's win percentage was 23.1%, which is slightly lower than that of Ruben Amorim at 'United'.
However, Amorim still enjoys the support of the management, despite increasing pressure from fans.
'United' hosts 'Sunderland' at 'Old Trafford' on Saturday.
Lee Martin's dismissal is yet another glaring example of the unstable situation in lower league clubs. In modern football, coaches often face high expectations, which can ultimately lead to quick dismissals. Will Martin find his new opportunity in coaching, or will his career remain overshadowed by his previous achievements as a player? Time will tell.
