Finland prepares for an increase in the number of migrants at the border with Russia.

Finland is expecting a growing flow of refugees arriving at its border via Russia. Therefore, they plan to take additional measures to stop this flow. Reuters reports on this information.

According to Finnish border guards, around 900 refugees from various countries such as Afghanistan, Kenya, Morocco, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen entered Finland in November.

Finland has already closed all entry points at the border with Russia except for one, but still expects new migrants.

Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo reported that intelligence indicates that people are still heading toward the border. If such a flow continues, new measures regarding this will soon be announced.

Finnish authorities accuse the Kremlin of deliberately directing migrants to the border.

It is also worth mentioning that Finnish authorities may open seven out of eight border crossings with Russia earlier by Christmas, that is before the planned date of February 18.

On November 18, Finland closed four border checkpoints in Southeastern Finland, explaining this with organized, intentional passage by the Russian side of people from third countries.

On Wednesday, the government decided to close three more checkpoints by December 23, leaving only one – the northernmost Raja-Jooseppi, because the flow of advanced and more risk-prone asylum applicants still does not decrease.

In Poland, it is believed that the situation with refugees at the Finnish-Russian border will worsen.
