BYD Tang L enters the global market: flagship crossover debuts in Mexico.
According to Korrespondent.net: The flagship crossover BYD Tang L has started exporting to Mexico, where it is now called BYD Atto 8. This is already the third generation of the successful SUV, which debuted in China in the spring of 2024 and has now entered the international market.
In Australia and New Zealand, this model is planned to be sold under a new name, BYD Sealion 8, but the official sales start will only occur next year. Meanwhile, in Mexico, orders for the crossover are already open, available in an all-wheel-drive hybrid version.

The appearance of the Atto 8 retains the design of the Tang L: the car has a characteristic two-story optics, hidden door handles, integrated rear lights with a woven pattern, and a smooth front bumper with an integrated grille. The only change is the absence of lidar above the windshield, as well as large chrome letters BYD on the grille instead of hieroglyphs.
The dimensions of the vehicle remain unchanged: the length is 5040 mm, width – 1996 mm, height – 1760 mm, and wheelbase – 2950 mm. The car is equipped with 21-inch wheels and has three rows of seats. The trunk capacity varies from 270 to 1960 liters.
Under the hood, the Atto 8 features a DM-p hybrid system with a 1.5-liter turbo engine producing 150 hp, which can act as a generator or drive the front axle. Two electric motors provide a total power of up to 544 hp, although local press reports a figure of around 480 hp. The battery capacity is 35.6 kWh, allowing a range of up to 152 km on electric power alone, while the total range reaches 1030 km according to the NEDC cycle.
In Mexico, the model is available in one configuration, which includes a panoramic roof, leather interior, heating, ventilation, and massage for seats, a 10.25-inch virtual instrument panel, a multimedia system with a 15.6-inch rotating display, 21 speakers in the audio system, as well as adaptive cruise control and driver assistance systems.
The price of the BYD Atto 8 in Mexico is 1,199,800 pesos, which is approximately equivalent to 65 thousand dollars. It is expected that the model will soon appear in other Latin American countries, and possibly in Uzbekistan, where it has already been presented at a local auto show.
It was previously reported that the sales of Chinese electric cars are reaching records in Europe.
