EU Entry Date for Ukraine Remains Unclear, Says von der Leyen.
Ukraine's Path to EU Membership
According to Novyny.live: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has stated that it is currently impossible to set a specific date for Ukraine's accession to the European Union. She made these remarks during a press conference in Kyiv, where she acknowledged Kyiv's significant progress on reforms and underscored the importance of the European integration process for Ukraine. This comes as Ukraine continues its formal accession negotiations, a process that typically takes many years to complete.
Marta Kos, the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, added that Ukraine's experience and resilience could strengthen the European Union itself. She noted that cooperation with Ukraine is a vital element for the future of the EU.
In response to questions, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope that Ukraine could become an EU member by 2027. He emphasized Kyiv's desire to conclude the negotiation process as swiftly as possible and called on the EU to establish a clear accession date. Zelenskyy also warned that
'Russian dictator Vladimir Putin will attempt to obstruct Ukraine's Euro-integration in the future', highlighting the critical need for EU support during this challenging period.
Geopolitical Challenges and European Integration
The European Union's stance on Ukraine remains crucial in the context of the geopolitical challenges facing the region. Supporting Ukraine's Euro-integration could not only strengthen the country itself but also positively impact stability across Europe as a whole.
The continuation of reforms in Ukraine is a key factor for further progress toward EU membership, demonstrating the country's commitment to integrating with European structures and standards.
