Freeland predicted when Ukraine will receive funds from Russian assets.
Canada's Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland said that the global plan to finance Ukraine's military actions through Russian assets will soon be implemented. She is confident that Ukraine will receive the funds in the coming months. The technical aspects of this plan are now under discussion.
After the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, foreign partners froze about 280 billion dollars worth of Russian assets as part of sanctions. The Group of Seven countries, including Canada, the USA, and Japan, have agreed on a plan to use the profit from frozen assets to provide Ukraine with a 50 billion dollar loan to support military actions. Chrystia Freeland actively promoted this idea by communicating with key global politicians such as US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.
