Neville expressed concern about Manchester United's results

According to The Sun: Gary Neville expressed deep concern over the lack of progress at Manchester United under coach Ruben Amorim after a 3-1 defeat to Brentford.

The former club captain pointed to two things he does not want to see again when Manchester United faces Sunderland.

The team has now won only two of its first seven matches this season, and Amorim is still searching for stability in the Premier League since taking charge last November.

This defeat means that United, who finished a mediocre 15th last season, has only garnered 34 points from 33 matches under the Portuguese.

After six games this season, the team sits in 14th place.

Neville, a club legend, admitted that he is 'very, very worried' about the team's ongoing issues.

He did not hold back in his criticism of Amorim's tactics, particularly pointing out two decisions he deemed 'horrific.'

Neville told NBC Sports: 'I am very worried, there's no point in hiding that.'

'The performances, the results, and the substitutions yesterday were simply inadequate.'

Neville also noted the puzzling tactical decisions during United's Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby, when Mason Mount played as a left-back, actions that Neville called 'unacceptable.'

He said: 'We admire coaches who stick to their systems, but when you have Mason Mount playing as a left-back, you look quite foolish. That has happened twice already, it shouldn't happen again.'

The former Manchester United defender also criticized the constant changes in defense, stating: 'He constantly changes the back three and five in every game, and the results are unacceptable.'

Neville added: 'I am very, very worried. I would never publicly say a coach should be sacked, but I understand the management will want to see clear changes soon.'

Amorim, however, brushed off talk of a threat to his job after the defeat to Brentford, stating he 'does not worry' about his future.

The 40-year-old coach said in a post-match interview: 'I never worry about my job - I am not that kind of person.'

'It’s not my decision. I will continue to do my best every minute I am here.'

Despite the growing pressure, United defender Matthijs de Ligt came to the coach's defense, urging players to take responsibility for the team's failures.

De Ligt said: 'It's easy to blame the coach.'

'But ultimately, it’s the players on the pitch who need to take responsibility. The goals we conceded, the chances we gave away, it's down to focus and attention.'

'If that is not there in critical moments, it will cost us dearly.'

The defeat to Brentford meant the Red Devils have not won any of their last eight away matches in the Premier League (two draws and six losses), which is their worst record since 2019.

The situation at Manchester United raises concerns as the team continues to drop points in matches they should win. How the upcoming games pan out will show whether Coach Ruben Amorim can find the right formula to pull out of the crisis. Time will tell if the situation changes for the team or if they remain in the shadow of failures.
