Gazprom halts gas supplies to Austria: Nehammer responds to Putin's blackmail.
According to Chancellor Karl Nehammer, Austria is ready for the heating season regardless of whether gas supplies from 'Gazprom' will continue. This information is reported by Kronen Zeitung.
OMV, the Austrian company, received notification of the cessation of gas supplies from 'Gazprom'. This happened because OMV refused to pay an arbitration award of 230 million euros.
'We have been prepared for such a development since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. Austria will not succumb to Putin's blackmail,' emphasized Nehammer.
The chancellor assured that there are reliable alternative sources of gas in the country. Gas storage facilities are filled to 93% and this is enough to meet Austria's annual needs. The situation has also been communicated to the European Commission.
'I can guarantee you that no one will freeze this winter and no apartment will remain cold!' - emphasized Karl Nehammer.
According to OMV, the company has already ensured the diversification of gas supplies by involving non-Russian sources and additional capacities.
