21-Year-Old Ziair Wilkins Arrested for Crypto Theft via Malicious Games

According to Мінфін — Крипто/Фінанси: Authorities in the United States have arrested Ziair Wilkins, a 21-year-old suspected of stealing more than $220,000 in cryptocurrency by hiding malware inside games on the Steam platform. Wilkins was taken into custody on July 14 and subsequently charged with conspiracy to illegally obtain computer data. This case highlights a growing trend where digital marketplaces become vectors for cybercrime.

How the Scheme Worked and Its Impact

According to investigators, between May 2024 and February 2026, Wilkins released eight games that contained embedded viruses. These titles included:

  • BlockBlasters
  • Chemia
  • Dashverse/DashFPS
  • Lampy
  • Lunara
  • PirateFi
  • Tokenova

These games were used to infect roughly 8,000 devices. Through this operation, the attacker gained access to 80 cryptocurrency wallets, enabling him to steal substantial amounts of digital currency.

The legal proceedings against Wilkins are currently underway in Washington State. A verdict has not yet been reached, and further details are expected in the coming months.

This incident underscores the escalating threat of cybercrime in the cryptocurrency space, which has become an attractive target for criminals due to its anonymity and the ease of accessing digital assets.

The use of malware hidden in video games to steal cryptocurrency also reveals the evolving tactics employed by cybercriminals. Given the scale of the infections, this case could have serious implications for the security of users on platforms like Steam.
