France Blocks Polymarket Prediction Site—Which Other Countries Have Restricted Access.
France Moves to Block Polymarket
According to Мінфін — Крипто/Фінанси: France’s national gambling regulator, the ANJ, has blocked access to the prediction market platform Polymarket, tightening restrictions that were first introduced in November 2024. The decision comes after traffic from France to the site surged to 578,751 visits last month, despite the existing ban. For context, Polymarket is a decentralized platform where users bet on event outcomes, and its growing popularity has drawn scrutiny from regulators worldwide.
The ANJ’s restrictions are part of broader efforts to oversee online gambling in France. Violators face fines of up to 100,000 euros for illegal gambling advertising. Polymarket, which has generated over $1 billion in annual revenue, continues to attract attention even as it remains banned in several countries.
Global Regulatory Crackdown
Beyond France, Polymarket is also prohibited in Germany, Italy, Spain, and Ukraine. In Ukraine, access was officially blocked in January 2026 following a decision by the National Commission for the State Regulation of Electronic Communications (NKEK), which was adopted on December 10, 2025, under resolution No. 695. These actions highlight a coordinated global push by regulators to combat unlicensed online gambling.
The blocking of Polymarket reflects an intensification of regulatory efforts across Europe to control online gambling platforms. Rising traffic from France despite existing restrictions underscores the challenges national authorities face in enforcing the law. This decision, along with similar moves in other countries, may signal a growing trend toward stricter oversight of online betting platforms on a global scale.
